Features of different types of mobile telephone systems

One of the stages of the growing use and development of mobile phones is called the generation of mobile phones. The mobile technology discovered so far can be divided into four generations. Below is a detailed discussion of these generations:

First-generation
In 1973, the first generation mobile phone was introduced commercially in North America. Whose name was AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone System). AMPS communicated using analog signals.

First-generation mobile systems have the following features:

  • This generation uses analog radio signals.
  • The signal frequency is relatively low.
  • Transmission is interrupted when the user's position changes while the conversation is going on.
  • It uses microprocessors and semiconductor technology.
  • There is no interference caused by another mobile transmitter in the same area.

Example: Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS)
Total Access Communication System (TACS) etc.

Second generation
The second generation of mobile phones came with the release of Noise to Voice. It transmits voice digitally. Digital AMPS or D-AMPS is named after the digital name of AMPS in North America.

Second-generation mobile phones have the following features:

  • This generation uses digital radio signals.
  • Advances in semiconductor technology and microwave devices have made digital transmission possible in mobile communications.
  • Digital modulation is used for high-quality audio.
  • The speed of data transfer is much higher.
  • It helps prevent data fraud.
  • The first prepaid system was introduced.
  • SMS and MMS service activities are started.
  • It is possible to send data and voice through GSM method.
  • Transmission is uninterrupted if the user's position changes while the conversation is running.
  Example: GSM-R, GSM 1600 etc.

Third generation
The idea of a third-generation mobile phone started in 1992. At this time a new concept called International Telecom Union (ITU) emerged.

Third-generation mobile systems have the following features:

  • The addition of a modem adds a new dimension to mobile phone internet usage and data exchange.
  • Complete data transfer speed. The data rate is more than 2 Mbps.
  • It is possible to launch mobile banking, e-commerce, etc.
  • An international roaming facility is launched.
  • Use of radiofrequency
  • In addition, alternative billing services can be provided. Such as Pay-Per-bit, Pay-per-Session, Flat rate etc.
Examples: EDGE, HSPA, etc.

Fourth generation
The mobile phone system of the future is the fourth generation mobile phone system. The main feature of this generation of mobile systems is the use of Internet protocol-based networks instead of circuit switching or packet switching. This will enable data exchange through the use of a mobile telephone system (IP) based networks. In the case of fast-moving devices, its data transfer speed is 100 megabits / second and in the case of stationary devices, its data transfer speed is 1 gigabytes/second. For example, USB wireless modems with laptops, smartphones, and other mobile devices.
The characteristic development of the fourth generation has been done with the aim of achieving the following benefits.
As a result of a three-dimensional practical application, one will feel one's presence even if one does not attend any event directly.
IP dependent wireless network systems will work.
Interaction between supportive technologies increases.
4G will also solve the limited bandwidth problem of 3G.
Television will provide relatively high-quality images and video links.
          Example: WiMax2
